Development cooperation for statistical systems of partner

Polish statistics underwent a process of economic transformation and then an adjustment to the European Statistical System (ESS), including the legislation, in the period before and after accession to the EU. In the pre-accession period Statistics Poland was the recipient of aid. Polish statisticians have gained knowledge and experience to assist other countries, supporting them in their efforts to improve the quality of their statistical systems.

Subsequent years of experience in assistance activities have consolidated the position of Polish statistics in the international arena. These activities systematically increased the rank and prestige of Statistics Poland as an institution mature to provide ongoing development support to other developing countries. Under the principle of solidarity Poland, having an extensive experience and expert knowledge in particular fields of statistics, has been initiating and implementing international activities, be it development-related ones, technical assistance or statistical capacity building/development. Innovative activities and projects are aimed at the permanent development of official statistics as the main and most reliable source of data, the basis for making decisions and conducting political and development processes in individual countries. In the coming years, Statistics Poland intends to continue the initiated activities and expand international cooperation with new projects to support developing countries.

Statistics Poland participates in development cooperation projects within the framework of, among others: Polish Aid - financed from the state budget, European Union initiatives implemented and financed under EC technical assistance programmes, Pan-African Statistical Programme and other international development projects. Information on individual activities supporting partner countries can be accessed by clicking on the "Development cooperation projects" and "Other development activities" sections.

In addition, Polish experts carry out such forms of active support for partner countries as expert consultations, training courses or internships. Their subject matter results from the demand of foreign partners and depends on the internal strategy of Statistics Poland in this area.

Poland's support activities, including those of Statistics Poland, on the international arena have been recognised by the OECD. In 2021, a profile of Poland, which takes into account Statistics Poland activities, was included in Data for Development Profiles available at Data for Development Profiles: Official Development Assistance for Data and Statistical Systems | OECD iLibrary (oecd-ilibrary.org)
